The cost of seeing a chiropractor varies depending on where you live and the specific services you require. On average, chiropractor visits range from $30 to $200+ per session. This can add up quickly, especially if you need ongoing treatment. I’ve done all the research and tried all the things, and here are the products that I believe are worth spending money on that will save you money on chiropractic care. Remember, while these alternatives can provide relief, it’s always important to consult with a healthcare professional for persistent or severe pain.

Shiatsu Massage Chair

A Shiatsu massage chair can alleviate current back pain while also maintaining your back health. Just make sure that it is Shiatsu and not the useless message chairs that simply vibrate which are a waste of money in my opinion! What makes Shiatsu chairs amazing is the deep-kneading rollers that relieve muscle tension and pain, like what you’d experience at a chiropractor’s office and to a lesser extent, a massage from a professional. While these chairs range from $50 – $300+, this one-time expense provides relief and comfort for years.

Acupuncture Mat & Pillow

Acupuncture mats are a lifesaver on the days your back pain is unbearable. Specifically, when you “sleep wrong” and have a pinched nerve. These mats are covered with small plastic points that stimulate pressure points on your body, alleviating back pain, improving circulation and as a bonus, is quite relaxing (once it stops hurting) and it gives you a burst of energy! I’m not going to lie; the mat takes some getting used to but the relief is brings is worth it. Using it for 20 minutes a day is my daily ritual, and I went from having constant pinched nerves monthly to one to two times a year. Best of all, the mats are relatively inexpensive, often costing less than $40, which is 100% worth it.

Sole Inserts for Your Shoes

Many people like myself that have “flat feet” suffer from chronic back pain and sciatica. A simple way to relieve excruciating sciatica withing days is to get high arch support insoles. I went from having to use a cane to running and exercising daily. I believe this to be the #1 game changer for back health. Don’t spend thousands of dollars like I did seeing a chiropractor 2-3 times a week. Instead, get yourself some quality sole inserts (mine were $90) and you will notice a pep in your step in no time.

Wheel Back Roller

Wheel back rollers, not to be confused with foam rollers, are versatile tools that can help relieve back pressure while also giving you a good stretch. I have used a variety of wheels and by far the most effective one that I have used and currently use is the Chirp Wheel. By using a back roller regularly, you can relieve back pain, muscle tightness, improve flexibility, and even correct posture issues. Just an FYI, don’t be alarmed if your back cracks and pops like bubble wrap, that means it’s working.

Electro Pulse Massager

Electro pulse massagers, also known as TENS units, use electrical impulses to stimulate nerves and relieve pain. If you’re like me and never heard of this, it might sound scary, but I assure you, that you will love using it! Simply slap on the sticky pads where you feel pain, adjust the settings, and let the machine do the work. If you have never experienced a TENS unit before, it is a bit weird at first, but you will find yourself taking the best nap ever and feeling a lot more pain free and relaxed. Many chiropractors use this on their patients and charge an arm and a leg (or back?) while you can get your own for a fraction of the cost. Using this daily or even weekly will reduce your need for costly chiropractic visits.

Free Back Tips

This blog is all about saving money so of course I have to share how to relieve your back pain without spending a dime. I unknowingly paid a chiropractor thousands of dollars for basic tips, so you don’t have to. Here is how you can manage your back pain at home:

  1. Stretching Exercises: Gentle stretches can help relieve the pressure on your sciatic nerve. Focus on stretches that target the lower back and hamstrings.
  2. Heat and Cold Therapy: Alternating between heat and cold packs can reduce inflammation and pain. Apply a cold pack for the first 48 hours, then switch to a heating pad.
  3. Proper Posture: Maintaining good posture, especially when sitting, can help prevent and alleviate sciatic pain. Use a lumbar support cushion if necessary.
